Natalia Evans

I create art that reflects my relationship to nature and the cycles of life. I love observing and isolating a single moment in time while I live in the constant sea of change. My art is a collection of images from nature and the process of seeing how they fit together. The seeding flower holds as much beauty as the new blossom. The thick mass of overgrown vines captures my attention the same way the brilliance of a free floating butterfly cascades through the air. The goal of my work is to arrange these images and materials into harmonious forms. I enjoy introducing new materials, sizes and subjects to feed my curiosity. The primary drive is to achieve a balance of thought and form, to hold a vision long enough to create it.

I enjoy the tactile nature of working with embroidery thread and fabric. My collection of up cycled shirts are embellished with vintage fabrics and embroidered designs. I integrate symbolic images of snakes, birds, hands and flowers. It is fun to wear my art in the world and to be a part of other’s fashion expressions. There is great joy to be found in transforming a piece of clothing and giving it new life.

Painting and illustration is a practice that regulates my well being. For inspiration I enjoy observing the unraveling and vigorious growth of nature through out the seasons. My paintings are a reflection of my awe of the natural world.
