Kirsty Iredale

My pottery studio sits on the Mesa, an endless provider of natural inspirations and a respite from the noise and bustle of daily challenges.

From textures and colors, to minute details found in leaves, bones, ant mounds, rusty metal and decaying matter, I enjoy incorporating local materials into my own work, both literally and in spirit. Science and art interplay as I produce families of functional art, whimsical beasts and clay doodles.

Having a love of folk art, classic design and many assorted oddities, I am surrounded in my studio by collections of treasures that have intrigued me since my childhood in England. Materials, tools and unfinished projects join antiques and found objects; fodder for more creations.

I offer pottery classes for those wanting to learn fundamental techniques or to venture into something different. I encourage experimentation, allowing students to recognise and develop their own styles and interests, facilitating with tools and materials, books and tips.

I relish both my own personal interaction with clay as well as the community of others in sharing challenges and discoveries together in the studio. Digging into clay and starting to realise its infinite possibilities feels particularly nourishing. It’s a hands-on, analog indulgence in an increasingly cyber-dominated world.
