James Douglas Cooper is an Australian artist and filmmaker based in California. His work explores the intersection of nature, memory and the metaphysical, creating layered abstract paintings inspired by oceans, landscape and the quiet forces that shape our inner world.

Drawing remains at the heart of his practice, with each work evolving slowly through months of painting, texture and revision. Years spent living in Australia, Europe and the United States, together with time in Japan, have informed a visual language that balances gesture, restraint and atmosphere.

Cooper has exhibited with The Other Art Fair presented by Saatchi Art in Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles. His work is held in private collections in Australia and the United States, and he continues to work across painting and film.
